Milos to the airport

The one day with no slack — plan it backwards

Ferry ATH by 21:30
  1. 07:30Pack, drive down, drop the ATV at Adamas
  2. 08:30Early high-speed Milos → Piraeus, 3 to 4 hours, about €80 each — never the last sailing
  3. 13:00Fallback sailing: a ~13:00 SeaJet lands ~16:30 and still leaves buffer
  4. 17:00Piraeus to the airport — X96 bus, 60 to 90 minutes, or Metro Line 3
  5. 21:30At the airport, three hours before 6H570

Do not book a 16:00–17:00 departure: landing 19:30–20:30 is too late. Backup if the sea turns: the 30-minute Milos → Athens flight.

Getting around

AirportAthens
Metro, bus, or taxi to the city or to Piraeus. Metro to the centre is about an hour.
FerriesBetween islands
The best way to move around. Prefer daylight sailings since high speed boats are available. Book early, then check again a few days before: weather can change the timetable. Ferryhopper is the place to compare.
Piraeus → Sifnos~€70 pp
2.5 to 5 hours, high-speed often 2.5 to 3. Frequent, with morning (7:00–9:00) and afternoon sailings.
Sifnos ↔ Milos~€15 pp
A short hop: 50 minutes high-speed, up to 2 hours conventional. Several a day, easy either way.
Milos → Piraeus~€80 pp
Early or early-afternoon high-speed on 19 Sep — 3 to 4 hours, not the last sailing. A morning or ~13:00 boat lands mid-afternoon and still leaves time for X96 / Line 3. A 16:00–17:00 SeaJet (land 19:30–20:30) is too tight for ATH by 21:30. Backup: fly Milos → ATH (~30 min, Olympic/Sky Express).
Piraeus → ATHX96 / Line 3
From the port, X96 express bus (~60–90 min, runs all night) or Metro Line 3 straight to the airport. Be at ATH by 21:30 — 3 hours before 6H570.
On the islands
An ATV (150–350cc) or small car on both islands — not a 125cc scooter with a car (B) license. Chilean license is accepted without an IDP; confirm the agency accepts it when booking. Helmets mandatory (€350 fine). Alternative on Sifnos: Sifnos Bike Experience e-bikes in Exambela (no license needed).

Kiwi - Israir, both nonstop, 1 free carry-on. Outbound 6H567 Fri 11 Sep TLV → ATH 11:10–13:25. Return 6H570 Sun 20 Sep ATH → TLV 00:30–02:30. Be at ATH by 21:30 (3 hours before). Screenshot the confirmation and check in with Israir.

Three legs, all on Ferryhopper. Prefer daylight sailings. The return should be an early or early-afternoon Milos → Piraeus boat, not the last one. Recheck a few days before — wind can shift the timetable.

Morning sailing after Athens checkout. High-speed often 2.5 to 3 hours, ~€70 pp. Land at Kamares, Oniropagida shuttle up the hill, pick up ATV at port.

Sun 13 · after Athens checkout

Morning or midday high-speed, ~40 to 45 min, ~€15 pp. Drop Sifnos ATV at Kamares, pick up at Adamas. Check in Plaka Suites, still time for Sarakiniko that afternoon.

Wed 16 · island hop

The critical leg. Book an early or early-afternoon high-speed, not the last sailing — 3 to 4 hours, ~€80 pp. Drop ATV at Adamas first. From Piraeus take X96 (~60–90 min) or Metro Line 3 to ATH — be there by 21:30 (3 hours before 6H570). Skip 16:00–17:00 boats. If no early sailing, fly Milos → ATH (~30 min).

Sat 19 · early / early afternoon ATH by 21:30 · 6H570

All three stays confirmed. Emper is in Mouseio (not Plaka — metro or walk to sites). Oniropagida is above Kamares port, not in Apollonia village. Plaka Suites is in the heart of Plaka — vehicle pickup stays at Adamas.

2 nights, check in Fri 11 (6H567 lands 13:25), check out Sun 13. Mouseio / Victoria area — 5 min walk to Victoria metro (Line 1), 2 min to National Archaeological Museum, ~25 min walk to Plaka.

Fri 11 · arrival Sat 12 · Acropolis

3 nights, Sun 13 – Wed 16. Hill above Kamares port (Choraffes), panoramic sunset over the port. Free parking, free port shuttle. Apollonia and beaches are day trips by ATV or car.

Sun 13 · Kamares arrival Mon 14 · villages Tue 15 · Kastro & beach

3 nights Wed 16 – Sat 19. Heart of Plaka village — sunset from the balcony or Plaka Castle. Pick up and drop ATV at Adamas port (~10 min drive). Boat tours also leave from Adamas.

Wed 16 · Sarakiniko arrival Thu 17 · boat tour Fri 18 · Firiplaka & Klima

Skip Athens. Chilean car (B) license is valid in Greece without an IDP, but not for 125cc scooters — you need motorcycle A/A1/A2 for those. A category B license covers 150–350cc ATVs and rental cars (license held 1+ year, age 21+). Helmets mandatory. Confirm the agency accepts your license when booking — ATV rules are tightening in 2026.

Collect Sun 13 when the ferry lands, drop at Kamares Wed 16. Needed for Apollonia, Platis Gialos, Vathi, and Kastro. Try Loukataris / sifnosrentals.gr for port delivery. E-bike alternative: Sifnos Bike Experience in Exambela (no license, Bosch motor, handles the hills).

Sun 13 · pick up Beaches & villages Wed 16 · drop at Kamares

Collect Wed 16 at Adamas, drop Sat 19 before the early or early-afternoon Piraeus ferry. Essential for Sarakiniko, Firiplaka, Klima, and Pollonia — beaches are spread out and Plaka Suites is up the hill from the port. Leave it in Adamas on the boat-tour day. Several desks at the port; license held 1+ year, age 21+.

Wed 16 · Adamas pickup Thu 17 · leave in port (boat day) Fri 18 · Firiplaka · Klima · Pollonia Sat 19 · drop before ferry

Village tavernas, not the fancy rooms. Think €15–25 a head with wine, homemade pots, and fried fish. A couple are worth a phone call; the rest are walk-in. Skip the main Plaka tourist strip and anyone waving a menu at you.

Hole-in-the-wall on the quiet end of Kydathineon, about €15–20. Bakaliaros with skordalia, lamb, ekmek. Call +30 210 322 6671 for Saturday after the Acropolis. Friday can be walk-in, or the basement next door: Bakaliarakia tou Damigou (fried cod, since 1865, no fuss).

Fri 11 · Damigos or Saita Sat 12 · book Saita

Old family taverna on the square, about €15–20. This is the Sifnos food: revithada (Sunday chickpea stew), mastelo, caper salad, barrel wine. Pair it with a village evening. Ask for a table when you arrive, or call +30 22840 31921.

Mon 14 or Tue 15 · villages

Old kafeneio on the main lane. Meze, beer, house wine, cats. Go around 19:00. Beach day alternative: To Steki on the sand at Platis Gialos, traditional pots and fish, same price band, skip the tiny fish-bar next door.

Sun 13 · arrival night Tue 15 · beach day

Farm taverna by Papikinou, not a white-tablecloth place. Slow-cooked goat, chickpeas, garden food. They do not take reservations. Arrive around 19:00; drink across the road if there is a wait.

Fri 18 · go early

Family courtyard under the vines since 1993, the easy-value table in town: fava, lamb chops, zucchini fritters. Call +30 22870 22660 or see barkotavernmilos.com. Cheap lunch: gyros in Adamas and keep moving.

Wed 16 · arrival night
Worth planning ahead
  • Flights are booked: Kiwi, Israir 6H567 out and 6H570 back. On 19 Sep take an early or early-afternoon Milos → Piraeus high-speed — not the last ferry — then X96 or Metro Line 3. Be at ATH by 21:30 (3 hours before 00:30).
  • Sifnos and Milos ferries can be cancelled in strong wind. Keep a Milos → ATH flight (~30 min) as backup, and recheck times a few days before you travel.
  • Acropolis tickets are timed. Buy them before the trip and go for the first slot: the site is €30 (Digital Guide app included) and the museum is €20.
  • Book ATVs or a small car in advance for both islands — Chilean car license works without an IDP, but not for 125cc scooters. Confirm with the rental agency.
  • Cards work almost everywhere. Carry a little cash for small shops and taxis.
